Welcome to the VPTA website!

We hope existing tenant groups and tenants interested in setting up a group will make good use of it. There's lots of information about the organisation and tenant groups which we hope you will find stimulating. We are also hoping that tenant groups will use the website to let other groups and tenants know about what they are doing. It may take a little time to get used to it but, once you do, we're sure you'll find it a very quick and convenient way of communicating. You will need to submit your news to the VPTA for approval first. Happy browsing!

  The Victorian Public Tenants Association

The VPTA, which was established in 2001, is run by public tenants for public tenants through a Committee of Management (CoM).

The VPTA that supports, promotes and advocates for the rights of all public housing tenants, prospective public housing tenants, public housing tenant groups and those on the public rental housing waiting lists.

Currently we employ 2 full time staff – an EO (laurene dietrich) and a Business Manager (Bill Kirk) and one part time worker – a tenant group support worker (Jenny Rayner).

Funding over the past 18 months has come mainly from the Office of Housing (OoH). We have had a small amount of funding also from the Reichstein Foundation.

Our vision for public tenant in Victoria
is safe, secure, affordable and accessible public rental housing for everyone who wants it.

Our aims & objectives are:

(a)      To identify issues and advocate on behalf of public housing tenants, public housing tenant groups and those on the public rental housing waiting lists.

(b)      To pursue the interests of public housing tenants, public housing tenant groups and those on the public rental housing waiting lists with housing policy makers, governments and opposition members, the media and other housing and community agencies.

(c)      To provide access to housing policy makers, governments and opposition members, the media and other housing and community agencies.

(d)      To raise awareness and understanding of housing rental issues with public housing tenants, public housing tenant groups, people on public rental housing waiting lists, the general public, stakeholders and government at all levels.

(e)      To promote public housing tenants’ involvement in all issues concerning public housing tenancy by supporting tenants to take a more active role in their communities and to develop strong working relationships with the Office of Housing and other agencies and to assist in directing tenants to the appropriate person or agency to help with solving problems that may arise during their tenancy.

(f)      To provide a central point for the collection and dissemination of information on public rental housing and related matters, including referral to the appropriate person or agency to assist with individual tenancy matters

(g)      To liaise and work with the Office of Housing and other agencies to solve problems affecting public housing tenants, public housing tenant groups and those on the public rental housing waiting lists.
